His elevation as a Judge of the Supreme Court came after his stint as a Judge of the Bombay High court for 16 years.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \n \n \n <p style=\"text-align:center\"><span style=\"font-size:16px\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia,serif\"><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \n \n \n <p><span style=\"font-size:16px\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia,serif\">The collegium in recommending Justice Gavai as a Judge of the Supreme Court had specified that it was not only giving &lsquo;<strong>due weight to seniority, integrity and merit but also &lsquo;due representation&rsquo; in the Supreme Court.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \n \n \n <p><em><span style=\"font-size:16px\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia,serif\"><strong>Justice Gavai will take oath as the second Chief Justice of India from the Scheduled Caste community in 15 years.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai will be next Chief Justice of India (CJI) as CJI Sanjiv Khanna sends proposal to Law Ministry.
